Kennedy Kid
Friday, December 10th, 2004Hello from your newest and favorite Kennedy’s Kid! Weee! Swear In was great! My outfit was beautiful – I hope you’ll be able to see it on Nathaniel’s webpage. PS from Marilyn, I’ve attached photos for you all My shirt was sort of an elaborate cap-sleeved thing and my skirt was very long and fitted perfectly.. I’m not going to lie, I looked good! The ceremony was at a really nice French hotel here in a beautiful courtyard. It was right on the Chari River – right across the river from Cameroon! Cool, huh?
There were about 100 people there, including the ambassador, a congressman from NJ and Deby’s minister of education. Robin went first with her Arabic speech and everyone was just floored by how great it was. The Chadians in the audience (the only people who actually understood the Arabic) clapped several times throughout the speech. So then it was my turn and I was a little nervous, but not too bad. My skirt was so skinny and fitted that I had trouble climbing the stairs! But from there it was smooth sailing! I got lots of laughs and some near tears from the crowd. If I have time I will write an English translation for Nathaniel to put on his webpage. www.nathanieltishman.com After that, the minister, congressman, Nelson and the ambassador gave speeches. And then it was go time! Right hands raised, protecting the Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic and all of that!
Missionaries also stay here at the same compound as us. This afternoon, while cutting people’s hair, I met the missionaries who work in Bol! The man’s name is Steve Haberkamp and he grew up UCC in a town of 800 in Ohio. His wife is…get this..she’s from St. Charles! Is that the weirdest thing ever! What a small world!
Okay, best wrap this up and get to packing! Can you believe I go to Bol in 1 day? Weird…
Love
Kate
