Traveling Dream Team
Saturday, May 28th, 2005I’m headed down to N’Djamena tomorrow with the Haberkamps. It’s funny to think that I’ve only been at site about a month since my last N’Djamena trip. We’re having our second In-Service Training the first week of June. It will be about secondary projects, which is exactly the kind of training I need right now. Hopefully it will be a really useful week, but if it not, it will still be a week with my friends and a pool. After the IST, I’ll be in Bol for 2 weeds and then off to Benin (Benin is immediately west of Nigeria) for 2 weeks! I am so excited about the trip. Can’t wait! You’ll be happy to know that I’m paying for the trip entirely with money I’ve saved from my monthly salary. This is not due to the lucrative PC salary (about $27o per month if I did the conversion right…no guarantees there) but to my Dutch blood and midwestern upbringing. Mom always says that everything in my life has prepared me for this experience and I’m sure she’s right. How many of those city slicker volunteers are now washing and reusing Ziploc bags for the first time in their lives? I’ve been doing it since birth! Ha! Anyway, I’m traveling to Benin with my three best friends in Chad, who are hilarious, amazing people and will undoubtedly be great travel partners. We’re the traveling dream team.
I hope that all is well for you all where you are.
Thanks for all the great words of encouragement!
Love,
Kate
